Course Information
Description	Survey of theater including its history, dramatic works, stage techniques, production procedures and relation to other art forms. Participation in productions may be required. Emphasis on observation and appreciation of various types and styles of plays, knowledge of the functions of the personnel and other elements of theatre production including its history, dramatic works, stage techniques, production procedures and its relation to the fine arts.

Learning Outcomes	Upon successful completion of this course, students will: Analyze theater through written responses to play texts and/or live performance. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of theater history and dramatic works. Describe the collaborative nature of theater arts. Demonstrate the relationship of the arts to everyday life as well as broader historical and social contexts

Course Policies
Instructor Policies	FERPA: Due to FERPA laws which protect your own privacy, I will not discuss your grades over the phone or by email. If you want to discuss your grades, you must come to my office, in person, either during my scheduled office hours or by appointment. Late Work: A written assignment turned in late will be penalized one complete letter grade for each class day it is late, meaning if you earned a “B” on an assignment, and it is one day late, you will receive a “C” on that assignment. If late work or missed classwork is not completed within a week of its due date, it will not be accepted.  I will not accept late work via Email.
Attendance Policy	Since timelines and presence are crucial to excellence in the performing arts, the LSCPA Drama Program has adopted the following attendance policy for Early College High School Courses: Any Unexcused Tardies and Absences WILL affect your grades. The “Attendance” tool in Blackboard will be used calculate a portion of your Participation grade for this course. As already mentioned, prompt attendance is necessary in theatre. If you are not present at the start of class, you will be marked ABSENT for the day. The same goes for leaving class early: you will be considered absent. It is your job to let the professor know.
Additional Information	Content Disclosure: Content in the arts can sometimes include works, situations, actions, and language that can be offensive to some students on the grounds of sexual explicitness, violence, or blasphemy. As these topics can be central to the texts about which we are learning, and our college is devoted to the principle of Academic Freedom, students who might feel unduly distressed or made uncomfortable by such expressions should speak privately with the instructor to determine the best course of action.

COVID 19 Information	The Lamar State College Port Arthur (LSCPA) Student Code of Conduct COVID 19 Policy requires students who have been diagnosed with COVID 19 to report their condition directly to their local health department. Students should also contact their course faculty to report their quarantine status. In addition, this policy requires all students to wear face coverings when directly exposed to COVID 19 in compliance with the criteria included in the policy. Facility Policies	No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.
HB 2504	This syllabus is part of LSCPA's efforts to comply with Texas House Bill 2504.
Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect	As per Texas law and LSCPA policy, all LSCPA employees, including faculty, are required to report allegations or disclosures of child abuse or neglect to the designated authorities, which may include a local or state law enforcement agency or the Texas Department of Family Protective Services. Title IX and Sexual Misconduct	LSCPA is committed to establishing and maintaining an environment that is free from all forms of sex discrimination, including sexual harassment, sexual violence, and other forms of sexual misconduct.
